考研英語：破解“同位語”翻譯

　　摘要：在考研英語閱讀和寫作中同位語出現的頻率較高，而且時常成為翻譯的絆腳石。本文就帶大家一起學習同位語。

　　從內容本質上來說，同位語，顧名思義，指的是一個句子成分與另一個句子成分在句中的地位等同。從同位語的形式上來說，一個名詞或其它形式(我們稱之為A)， 跟在另一個名詞或代詞(我們稱之為B)后并對其進行解釋、說明或限定，A就是B的同位語。需要注意的是，同位語與被它說明的先行詞的格要一致，并且前后兩項所指相同,句法功能也相同。同位關系緊密時不用逗點隔開;同位語只作補充解釋時可用逗點隔開。例如：
　　His brother John was a world-famous doctor.
　　John是主語his brother的同位語，指同一人。
　　Mr. Smith,our new teacher,is very kind to us.
　　our new teacher是主語Mr.Smith的同位語，指同一人。
　　During the discussion of rock singing verses at last month’s stockholders meeting, Levin asserted that “music is not the cause of society’s ills” and even cited his son, a teacher in the Bronx, New York, who uses rap to communicate with students.
　　a teacher in the Bronx, New York是his son的同位語，指同一人。
　　此外，同位語除表示其同位成分的全部意義外，還可以表示部分意義。如：
　　He is interested in sports,especially ball games.
　　ball games是sports的同位語,是sports的一部分。
　　They gathered all the data they can, not just performance statistics and biographical details but also the results of their own laboratory experiments with high achievers.
　　not just performance statistics and biographical details but also the results of their own laboratory experiments with high achievers是data的同位語，是data的一部分。
　　除了名詞作同位語外，名詞性從句也可以作同位語。如
　　The question how we try out the top player will be discussed next week.
　　how we try out the top player是the question的同位語，為同一事物。
　　以上是同位語出現的幾種形式，下面我們來看一下如何翻譯句中的同位語成分，翻譯的關鍵在于要能夠挑明先行詞與同位語的關系。如果同位語比較短我們可以直接將同位語翻譯出來修飾說明先行詞。如Mr. Smith,our new teacher,is very kind to us.譯為我們的新老師史密斯先生對我們很好。如果同位語比較長，就需要通過加標點符號(包括逗號、冒號、破折號)或是表示解釋說明的漢語文字(如這、那、該、即、如下)來表明先行詞與其同位語的關系。如：The question how we try out the top player will be discussed next week.譯為如何選拔運動員，這個問題我們下周在討論。
